Washington, DC – The National Osteoporosis Foundation issued the following statement regarding the impending out-of-pocket cliff threatening the Medicare Part D program:
“A looming threat to the Medicare Part D program is set to take effect in 2020 unless Congress takes action. The Part D cliff will significantly increase the catastrophic threshold – the amount of out-of-pocket spending needed to enter catastrophic coverage – by $1,250, putting additional cost-sharing burdens on already vulnerable patients. This additional spending requirement may lead to restricted access to care and lower adherence. To avoid these compounding issues and prevent a burdensome increase in out-of-pocket spending for beneficiaries, the cliff must be addressed. We strongly encourage members to take action and pass a legislative solution before the end of the year.”
